Work on a Fred-proof website with LeisureKing! - Blog

Posted on Monday, August 7, 2017

The arrival of Google's algorithm update called Fred makes relevant content on Web sites more important than ever. The update has been active on the Web for several months now, but the effects are well visible. Fred ruthlessly charges against websites that are full of worthless content and ads. Despite the lack of clarity about Google's update(s), one thing is certain: it's a determined character, that Fred.

SEO for advanced users
For entrepreneurs in the leisure industry, the online presence is unimaginable. For several years now, the online tourist has been a household word: day attractions, activities and other outings are booked and paid for online through a online reservation system. As an entrepreneur in the leisure industry, you therefore want to increase your online findability. Investing in search engine optimization (SEO) is therefore important and valuable. Unfortunately, the classic SEO tricks that used to be sufficient for a higher ranking no longer work today. Resizing images and filling in meta tags and keyword tags no longer make a difference in 2017.

Relevance is the key
The Fred update from Google provides even more focus on relevance, and that makes pretty good sense. As a business owner, you are also looking for the right, aka relevant, customer. Say you offer various outdoor activities and you are also bookable online. Then tourists looking for outdoor activities, a sports outing or an active bachelor party like climbing might be relevant to you. So the online tourist looking for products that are outdoor related, such as climbing equipment, is not. This also applies to that same online tourist. Relevance is key with Google.

Fred-proof with LeisureKing
There are a number of ways you can make sure your website is Fred-proof. LeisureKing helps you do just that. Namely, the most important shift relates to content. Try to provide your website with a lot of and especially self-written content. In LeisureKing's iframe, we offer the space to place this self-written content. We encourage Iframes that contain a specific activity or activity category. This also applies to the text in the corresponding text boxes. Be careful that you do go for quality and not quantity. Self-written content about your activities is therefore a must. Make sure you have a clear picture of where the interests of your target audience lie and adapt your content accordingly. You can use Google Analytics for this purpose.

Besides content, there are a number of other things you can use to Fred-proof your website, namely:
- Try to keep the advertising space you provide on your website to a minimum. Rather, fill this space with relevant content.
- Are you using links in the text? Then make sure that the content the link refers to is linked to the topic. So don't use 'click here', but 'sign up for the newsletter'.
- Your website often has backlinks. Make sure that these too are of good quality. With the help of Google Analytics, you get clear insight into this.

Good luck Fred-proofing your website!
